It’s definitely summertime!
Today’s hunt will take place at Seagate Ave. Treasures can be found one block North not past the lifeguard chair.
There are two cases that contain at least $27 each with a coin. This hunt will require a detector just like the others. Make sure you fill any holes you dig on the beach and many thanks for picking up any trash you find along the way as well. If you need a hint or find the case, text me at 904-201-9047 so I can update that the cases have been found.

6 years! Wow never would have thought we would be here celebrating today.
Everyday is always a blessing, and this has truly been a joy to celebrate each month. Thank you to everyone who always comes out to hunt, I wouldn’t continue to do this if it wasn’t for you and the great support of our community. Thank you.
This anniversary will travel down our first coast community. We will start in Atlantic Beach and work our way down to Mickler’s Beach. Hopefully there will me more additional treasures left behind from this weekend’s celebrations.

The temps are here with a vengeance already after such a long winter it seems. Spring break wasn’t too fruitful for detectorists it seems, but the crowds were definitely here. Today is again the annual opening of the beaches parade, the 79th anniversary. It’s a way the community celebrates the season and what our beautiful coast has to offer.
Today’s hunt will take place around 18th Ave north. You’ll work around one block south and north

Spring breakers continue to come and visit Florida’s beaches these past couple of weeks. Treasures are starting to pick up a little and calls of lost items are coming in more and more.
And since it’s a bit more busy around these parts, it’s also harder to find places to hide things…
So let’s try looking around 4th Ave South in Jax Beach, and look both north and south for about a block.

There was an app long ago, I believe called periscope. As I sat in Atlanta drinking my morning coffee, I decided to try looking around the world at people broadcasting on the app. I discovered a guy named Gary, who gave the Sandy Toes Society report each morning from Jax Beach. I had never been to Jacksonville Beach before, but loved his commentary and morning views of the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean here. He would always be on, each morning to chat for just a few moments with viewers, and give fishing or weather reports. Little did I know my husband’s work would land us here just a year later.
And within that year, Gary moved to Tampa and the app closed down. I always think of him when I see anything related to sunrises. I don’t think I could be that organized to always get up to give a sunrise report as well has he did, but I sure would love to hear just one more broadcast.
I never was quite sure what street Gary did his broadcast off of, but I think nineth avenue north would have been a perfect spot. There’s an American flag that a neighbor has there, just a block north, that’s always out there. The ramp they recently built gives great access for wheelchairs, bikes and coolers with wheels.

Oh the cold month of January…even Florida finally got a taste of snow in some parts. Jacksonville missed most of the snow, but still too many days of cold weather than most of us would like to endure. Hopefully that will be our last moments so we can get back to our sandy toes society.
While I was recently at nineteenth north hunting for a lost item in Jax Beach, I got to experience this beautiful sunset. What you don’t see in the photo is the couple in love as they held hands and talked past the sunlight. There’s so many little beautiful moments to see while out detecting, which makes this hobby so fun.

The holidays are here and I can’t believe how fast they showed up.
Julius Caesar created the 12 month calendar based on the solar year. Before this, March was considered the beginning of the year. The word novem in Latin means nine, but once January and February were added to the Julian Calendar, November became the 11th and December the 12th months of the year. Another fun fact, Julius Caesar compared himself to the North Star, reflecting his constancy and commitment to the Roman law. And much like the North Star, it never changes its position.

A dear friend of mine, Jim Farquharson passed away recently Oct 1st, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Before Covid, he and his wife frequently visited St. Augustine in the winter, enjoying the warm climate compared to his Canadian home. In April 2019, Jim found an egg from one of the White’s egg hunts, completely unaware of the event. Then he found a case in February 2020 on one of his trips to visit St. Augustine as they often did each winter, being one of the last opportunities he would have to join the event. The photo above he took from that day. Even though Covid cut his trip short in 2020, we kept in touch via email every month on the 27th. Often the emails were talking about the weather and showing off our treasures we found from metal detecting.
In honor of Jim, I’ve created a page on this site as a memorial with all those photos of his “treasures” he shared with me over the years. On the 27th day of each month, he would try to get out to detect, to share the hunt with us in spirit. During the winter months I received photos of past treasures or images of snow outside his window. Cancer slowed the detecting adventures even more. But as I collected the gallery of images to share, I thought about how each photo was a wonderful adventure that day for him.
I was truly blessed to have made such a friendship in this community. Every 27th there was an email. And for the past 5 years, I’ve always looked forward to that email. I will admit this Hunt the 27th will be emotionally hard to not receive that email again.
Thank you Jim for the years of friendship.
Today in honor of Jim, I’ve placed some Canadian coins amongst the treasures to be found.
Today we’re going to detect for treasures at two locations. First location is in Jax beach between 15th Ave South and 16th Ave South. Second is Mickler 1 block South of the entrance, no further than the 3rd house. At each location there are two cases that contain at least $27 each with a coin. This weekend I attended Danny Gaulier’s memorial service. He, like most from his generation, lived an adventurous life. I always loved hearing him tell stories and his future plans. His health had different ideas unfortunately. The service was beautiful, and it made me think about what imprints we will leave behind. What stories we will have to tell younger generations interested in the hobby. This community of detectorists have become like family to me, and when one leaves us, we grieve as a family too.
I love this hobby, which is why I continue our monthly hunts. Not only for the thrill of the hunt, but community it brings. And hope that the joy continues with the participants as I try to design a different challenge each month.

Our nation’s 248th birthday is next week. I always love seeing the flags that Atlantic Beach puts out next to city hall. Five roads come to center in front of city hall, with each road lined with American flags. I hope they continue this tradition for years. Wow, it’s been 5 years already! What started to be a simple hunt to copy the idea of White’s easter egg hunts, turned into meeting so many people, beautiful views and lots of adventures.
Thank you to everyone that’s ever came out to a Hunt the 27th. It wouldn’t be an event without you!
To celebrate, there’s five locations for today. At each location, there are two cases with $27 and coin in each. Also at each location is 5 silver quarters, 5 silver dimes.

After such a long winter, it seems summertime is almost here. Tourists are showing up for spring break and warmer weather, and the traffic has picked up around the beaches.
This weekend is the annual opening of the beaches with lots of events to attend. The tradition has been around for years, this year being the 78th anniversary as an unofficial way to celebrate the season to come. Today the city has a cornhole event, sandcastle contest, skateboard event and more. The parade is on Sunday at 2pm and takes a route around North Jax beach area making one of its turns at 11th Ave North. To keep with that tradition of being in the north side, our hunt will be between 11th and 13th Ave North for today's treasures.

This hunt will be in honor of our fur-baby that passed away on Friday, February 23rd, 2024. Mary had recently turned 16, and had been in our lives since the day she was born.
Mary had a life full of many adventures, always by my side, and was always so helpful while metal detecting. Anyone that met her loved her, and with her being so photogenic, she had a lot of fans on social media that adored her. One of the kindest, most intelligent dogs I ever had. There will never be another like her and we’re all truly heart broken over her sudden passing.
So today our hunt in honor of Mary is held at one of her favorite locations she loved to visit. We would often go to 13th Ave North access in Jax Beach to visit other dogs, get lots of great smells in along the way on our bike, and it’s the last place we went metal detecting together where she found a silver ring as her last treasure. If you sear the block from 13th north to 14th north, just like Mary and I did that day, you’ll find your treasures for today.
There are two cases at the location that contain at least $27 each with a coin. This hunt will require a detector just like the others. Love is all you need…
And a clue I suppose for this hunt.
I always like to use this hunt to celebrate Valentine’s Day since it’s the next holiday around the corner. The last week when I took this photo from the pier in Jax Beach, it was in the low 40s. The weather finally has warmed up again. However it’s been fickle lately, warm and cold, kind of like relationships. You never know how it will end up, whether it’s going north or south.
For this morning’s hunt, you have a choice to make as there are two locations to search. At each location you’ll hunt a block length north. So which 13th Ave will you choose?
There are two cases at each location that contain at least $27 each with a coin. This hunt will require a detector just like the others. I often post photos of beautiful local landscapes I take, often while detecting. However this time, I decided to share a beautiful gift someone recently sent me.
The internet brings all sorts of people into our lives, and as I share with others about the little hunt I do here once a month, I’m expecting to encourage others to do the same in their area or inspire in other ways. This time, it inspired someone to send me coins they had found while metal detecting over the years. What a beautiful gift for me to pass onto others here, and to show the spirit of giving during the holiday season! So thank you Jim from New York. I really appreciated that kindness!
So let's ring in the new year and watch another year approach by celebrating with a hunt. Beach Blvd is the gateway to Jacksonville Beach. Once called Hogan Road, it was completed in 1949. This highway ends directly into Jax Beach, next to the historic lifeguard station. Work your way a block north for today's treasures.
